About College:

Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha was the visionary who conceptulised the Indian Nuclear Programme and along with a handful of Scientists initiated the nuclear science research in India in March, 1944. He envisaged the vast potential of nuclear energy and its possible successful utilization in the field of power generation and allied areas. Dr. Bhabha started working with the goal of achieving self reliance in the fields of nuclear science and engineering and today’s Department of Atomic Energy which is a consortium of different and diversified fields of science and engineering is the final outcome of the farsighted planning of Dr. Bhabha. Thus, in his own words “When Nuclear Energy has been successfully applied for power production in, say a couple of decades from now, India will not have to look abroad for its experts but will find them ready at hand”. 


Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, realizing the immense potential of nuclear energy as a viable alternative source for electric power generation, launched the Indian Nuclear Programme in March 1944. It was the farsightedness of Dr. Bhabha to start nuclear research in India at a time following the discovery of nuclear fission phenomena by Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassman and soon after Enrico Fermi etal from Chicago reporting the feasibility of sustained nuclear chain reactions. At that time very little information was available to the outside world about nuclear fission and sustained chain reactions and nobody was willing to subscribe to the concept of power generation based on nuclear energy. 


Dr. Bhabha was an astute scientist and committed engineer, a dedicated architect, a meticulous planner and a perfect executive. An ardent follower of fine arts and music, he was a philanthropist too. The path to perfection paved by Dr. Bhabha has taken the Indian Atomic Energy Programme to one amongst the best in the world. The family members of the Department of Atomic Energy and also the whole country salute the great scientist of our country- Dr. Homi Bhabha and rededicate ourselves in the pursuit of perfection set forth by him through the coming years.

Diploma in Medical Radioisoto Techniques (DMRIT) [This course equips candidates for working in Nuclear Medicine Centres. The training will comprise of a full time schedule of lectures, demonstrations, practical and apprentice programmes]

Eligibility and Selection Procedure for Diploma in Medical Radioisoto Techniques DMRIT in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, BARC, Mumbai

B.Sc. Degree with 60% and above marks on aggregate of science subjects of a recognized University with Chemistry, Physics, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry Microbiology, Biophysics, B.Sc. (Nuclear Medicine Technology) or B.Sc. (Medical Radiological Technology). Those having M.Sc. degree may also apply, but they will not have any preference in selection.

AGE LIMIT: Not more than 35 years as on 1st May, 2014. Upper age limit can be relaxed in the case of SC/ ST, OBO, sponsored candidates and PH category. The candidates with physical disabilities limited to the lower extremities, but permitting to stand and move and physically able to carry out the course requirement only will be considered. The selected candidates should be able to discharge the duties of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

Common Entrance Test: Admission criteria will be a CET (Common Entrance Test) of 150 questions with negative marking for incorrect answers. The CET will be based on Multiple Choice Questions and will have 150 questions. The CET syllabus will be drawn from Science Subjects of Standard Xll or equivalent. Minimum marks to qualify will be 50%. A Merit List of qualifying candidates will be made and will be selected in order of merit only. The CET will be held in BARC, Trombay Mumbai. The dates for CET will be announced later.

Duration of training: Two Academic Years (2014-2016)

Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to the DRM programme shall be MBBS or equivalent degree (including internship) of a University recognized by the University Grants Commission and Medical Council of India with minimum 50% marks

However, whenever stipulation by Statutory Authority is higher than 50%, the stipulated % shall be followed

The candidates must have completed their internship before joining the DRM course

Specializations and number of seats shall be as approved by the Medical Council of India

Common Entrance Test (CET): Admission criteria will be a CET (Common Entrance Test) of 200 questions in 3 hours with negative marking for incorrect answers

The CET will be based on multiple choice questions and will have 200 questions at the III MBBS level

Subjects covered will be, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstertics, Opthalmology and ENT, Microbiology, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Internal Medicine (Cardiology, Pediatrics, Oncology), Infectious diseases, Neurology, Nephrology, Endocrinology and Recent Advances in Medicine

Minimum marks to qualify will be 50%; a merit list of qualifying candidates will be made and candidates will be selected in order of merit only

The CET will be held in BARC, Trombay, Mumbai

The dates for CET will be announced later and will be available at BARC website www.barc.gov.in

Age limit: Not more than 40 years as on 01st May 2014

No of Seats: Maximum 4 (3 non-sponsored and 1 sponsored) may change as per MCI guidelines

If enough candidates in any one category do not qualify, more candidates may be taken from other category subject to qualifying as per merit list and availability of resources

Stipend: A Stipend of Rs.16000/- p.m. (Rupees Sixteen Thousand only) for the first year and Rs.17000/- p.m. (Rupees seventeen thousand only) for the second year will be given to each non-sponsored trainees

However, no stipend is admissible to sponsored trainee

Educational Qualification: Master Degree in Physics with minimum 60% marks (aggregate) in both B.Sc. and M.Sc.
