The following types of students will be considered for admission

a)     Regular (Full Time). The students should have cleared GATE. Such students will receive institute assistantship.

b)     Sponsored (Full Time) Sponsored candidates (from Government Organisations/Public Sector Organizations/Other industries) may also be considered after their interviews, but no financial assistance will be provided to such candidates. They should have at least 2 years of work experience.

c)      Part-time students: Those who are employed in reputed institutes or in oil industries and have acquired a minimum of three years of experience can also apply for the registration as Part-Time Ph.D. students at RGIPT.

d)     External candidates with at least 3 years of experience in Government Organizations / Public Sector Organizations / Other industries having adequate research facilities may be considered. In such cases the research work should be of interest to RGIPT and should be separate from the candidate’s regular work for the organization where the candidate is employed. Such candidates should work under a Supervisor within his parent organization and the overall guidance will be provided by the major guide from RGIPT under whom the candidate should register for Ph.D. No financial assistance will be provided to such candidates. Such applications may be accepted during any time of the year.

Minimum Requirements:

a)         M.Tech degree in Petroleum/ Chemical/ Mechanical Engineering with 65% marks or CPI of 7.0.

b)         B.Tech/ B.E. Degree in above areas with 70% marks or CPI of 8.0 (for direct admission to PhD).

The application forms may be downloaded from the website www.rgipt.ac.in and the duly filled up application form may be submitted along with a demand Draft of Rs. 1000/- in favor of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, payable at New Delhi (Not Rae Bareli) to the Director, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Ratapur Chowk, Rae Bareli – 229316, U.P. SUPERSCRIBE the envelope with the type of student against which application is made, like Regular (Full Time) or Sponsored (Full Time) etc. No TA/DA is admissible for attending the Interview.

Note that just because a candidate has cleared GATE, does not imply that he/she will be called for interview. The Admissions Committee will evaluate each application based on performance in GATE, and all through the education programme undertaken thus far. (For PhD, one can apply anytime during the year.)

1. Have a B.Tech / B.E degree in any one of the following disciplines from any AICTE approved

Institute, State/Central University or Institute created under an Act of Parliament

a)     Petroleum Engineering

b)     Chemical Engineering

c)      Mechanical Engineering

2. Have a valid GATE score at the time of admission

(Or)

Be sponsored by their employers and have at least 2 years work experience with the sponsoring employer. (All the expenses should be borne by the employer and the candidate will be on leave with a right to return to his/her job with the employer).

Selection process:

·          The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their B.Tech performance (for sponsored and non-sponsored candidates) and GATE score (for non-sponsored candidates). They will be called for an interview and will be offered admission in order of merit.

Scholarship:

v       GATE qualified candidates will be awarded a teaching assistantship of Rs. 8000 per month.

v       Sponsored candidates will NOT be awarded a scholarship.

1.      Minimum 60% in aggregate (55% for SC/ST) in Class 10, Class 12. (Copies of passing certificates and Mark sheets to be attached with the Application Receipt)

2.      Bachelor’s degree (4 years duration after 10+2) with 65% marks or C.P.I. of 7.0 in any branch of Engineering/ Technology. Mathematics must be one of the subjects in 10+2. Bachelors Degree must have AICTE recognition. (Photocopy of degree or provisional degree and Mark sheets of all semesters/years to be attached with the Application Receipt) OR Masters degree with 65% marks or C.P.I. of 7.0 in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Environmental Science, Applied Geological Sciences, Operational Research and Computational Science. (Photocopy of degree or provisional degree and Mark sheets of all semesters/years to be attached with Application Receipt)

3.      Should have Qualified either in CAT, JMET, or GMAT, (Copy of Admit Card & Score card to be attached along with the Application Receipt)

4.      Short listed applicants based on merit will be invited for selection process comprising of Group discussion and personal interview. Reservation policy as per Government of India’s directives.

5.      Students will be short listed based on their meritorious academic performance. Not all those satisfying the minimum requirement are likely to be short listed.
