Bharathiar University  State Eligibility Test (SET) for Lectureship, October, 2012

Bharathiar University will hold the State Eligibility Test (SET) on 07th October, 2012, Sunday for determining the eligibility of Indian Nationals for recruitment of Lecturers in universities and colleges in Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Puducherry

Only those candidates who have completed/are pursuing PG degree are eligible to appear in SET

Others need not apply

Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without grace or rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this test

The SC/ST/PC/VC category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without grace or rounding off) in Master’s degree examination are eligible for this examination

Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree examination and whose results are still awaited or candidates whose examinations have been delayed may also apply for this test

However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of Lectureship eligibility only after they have passed their Master’s degree examination or equivalent with atleast 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/PC/VC category candidates)

Such candidates must obtain their PG degree marksheet within two years from the date of SET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they will be treated as disqualified

The Ph.D degree holders whose master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% to appear in SET examination

Candidates have to appear for SET in the subject of their post graduation only

Candidates should note that their candidature is provisional

The mere fact that an admission card has been issued to a candidate will not imply that the university has finally accepted his/her candidature

Candidate may note that their candidature will be deemed final upon verification of eligibility conditions

The UGC is considering the OBC candidates as per the central list of Govt of India for giving relaxation in NET examinations

Further, it has been decided that for SET examinations, which are valid within the respective state, OBC candidates as per the list maintained by the respective state, may also be allowed to be eligible for relaxation in qualifying marks in SET examination, in addition to the OBC candidates as per the central list maintained by Govt of India

Candidates seeking concession in fee are required to submit attested copy of their OBC/SC/ST/PC/VC certificate along with their application forms

Other candidates are not required to submit any certificates/documents in support of their eligibility along with printout of their application form

Therefore, the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the test

In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the university at any state, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal action

Age Limit: No upper age limit

Exemption: NET/SLET/SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in universities/colleges/institutions

Provided, however, that candidates, who are or have been awarded a Ph.D degree in accordance with the UGC (minimum standards and procedure for award of Ph.D degree) regulation, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in universities/colleges/institution

For SET candidates; the candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility TEST (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Lectureship held prior to 01st June, 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of lecturer only in the universities/colleges belonging to the state from where they have cleared their SET

Examination Fee: For general candidates, the examination fee is Rs 1000/-, for OBC the fee is Rs 750/- and Rs 250/- for SC/ST/PC/VC

Examination fee has to be paid through bank challan by downloading from www.b-u.ac.in

Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances

Test Centres: Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappally, Salem, Tirunelveli, Chidambaram, Karaikkudi, Vellore, Puducherry

Application Form

The candidates are required to download/print the bank challan proforma from the Bharathiar University website www.b-u.ac.in/set2012 and then deposit the requisite examination fee in any branch of the following banks along with the bank charges (commission) of Rs 25/-; Bank of India, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank

The candidates are required to set up page settings in the browser before taking the print out

Before applying online, the candidates must process the following; scanned passport size photograph in JPEG format, make sure it should be 206x240 pixel dimension (w x h) and less than 200 kb; scanned copy of bank challan (fee remittance receipt) in JPEG format, make sure it should be less than 300 kb

Candidate seeking admission to the test must apply online (through a link available on the Bharathiar University website www.b-u.ac.in/set2012)

The last date for submission of online application will be 31st August, 2012

After successful submission, the candidate should take printout of online application form (two copies), attendance slip (one copy) and admission card (one copy) on separate A-4 size papers

SC/ST/PC/VC candidates and candidates belonging to BC/MBC/SC/ST must enclose the attested copy of certificate for the same

Candidates seeking age relaxation must enclose the certificate of educational qualification/research experience entitling the candidates for age relaxation

The application (consisting of one copy of printout of online application form, one copy of attendance slip, one copy of admission card and the fee challan) along with required documents must reach the Secretary, SET-2012, Bharathiar University, Coimabtore-641046 on or before 07th September,2012

The envelope containing the application form should be super scribed State Eligibility Test-2012

The candidates must affix their recent identical passport size photographs, in the places indicated, on the printout of online application form and must sign across the photograph after it is affixed so that a part of the signature spreads over the application form beyond the photograph

Besides, it should be duly attested by the Head of the University Dept/Principal of the College/Class-I Gazetted Officer

The candidates should send the following documents with the printout on A-4 size papers of their online application form (one copy), attendance slip (one copy) and admission copy (one copy); copy of the bank challan (university copy); attested copies of SC/ST/VC/PC/OBC certificates, in case applicable; certificate of educational qualification/research experience, in case applicable entitling the candidate for age relaxation duly attested by Gazetted Officer

Last date for submission of online application: 31st August, 2012, Friday

Last date for receiving filled in application: 07th September, 2012, Friday

Examination date: 07th October, 2012, Sunday
