The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) provides the students the ease of filling up a single application form to get admission to any of the 14 participating law institutes' under-graduate and post-graduate degree programmes (LL.B & LL.M). According to the MoU, the Common Law Admission Test would be conducted by each of the National Law Schools on rotation as per the criterion of seniority. 

The fourteen participating Law Schools for CLAT at present are:

1.     National Law School of India University, Bangalore (NLSIU)

2.     National Academy of Legal Study & Research (NALSAR) University of Law, Hyderabad

3.     National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU)

4.     West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (WBNUJS)

5.     National Law University, Jodhpur (NLUJ)

6.     Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (HNLU)

7.     Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar (GNLU)

8.     Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (RMLNLU)

9.     Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab (RGNUL)

10. National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi (NUALS)

11. Chanakya National Law University, Patna (CNLU)

12. National Law University, Odisha (NLUO)

13. National University of Study & Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL)

14. National Law University & Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJA)


UG Courses: The eligibility criteria for candidates (Indian Nationals only) seeking admission through CLAT-2014 in Undergraduate Courses shall be as per the following:

The candidate by 1st July 2014 must not have attained the age of 20 years in case of General/OBC/Persons with Disability (PWD) and Other category candidates, and 22 years in case of SC/ST category candidates

The candidates must have secured 45% marks in 10+2 or its equivalent

This is 40% in case of SC/ST category

Those appearing in qualifying examination in March/April 2014 are also eligible to apply

PG Courses: The eligibility criteria for candidates (Indian Nationals only) seeking admission through CLAT-2014 in Postgraduate Courses shall be as per the following:

As regards minimum percentage of marks in qualifying examination (i.e., LL.B./Five-Year Integrated LL.B./any other equivalent examination), the candidates must have

55% marks in case belongs to General/OBC/PWD and other category, and
50% marks in case belongs to SC/ST category

Those appearing in qualifying examination in March/April 2014 are also eligible to apply

Exam Pattern:

The CLAT-2014 Question Paper for UG courses shall multiple choice type questions as per the following scheme

Maximum Marks: 200

Duration of CLAT-2014: 02:00 Hours

Total Number of Questions: 200

Negative Marking: 0.25 Mark/wrong answer

Subject areas with weightage

1.     English including Comprehension: 40 Marks

2.     General Knowledge and Current Affairs: 50 Marks

3.     Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability): 20 Marks

4.     Legal Aptitude: 50 Marks

5.     Logical Reasoning: 40 Marks

The CLAT-2014 Question Paper for PG courses shall have the following pattern:

Maximum Marks: 150

Duration of CLAT-2014: 02:00 Hours

Long Essay Type Deive Questions: 100 Mark

Multiple-Choice Questions: 50 Marks (50 questions of 1 mark each)

Negative Marking: 0.25 Mark/wrong answer to MCQ

The long essay type contains 4 questions and 25 marks each pertaining to subject areas such as constitutional Law and Jurisprudence

The Multiple-Choice Questions covers all subjects except Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence prescribed by BCI for Under-Graduate Courses

Admission Procedure:

In case of equal marks secured by candidates, the procedure to break the tie will be as per the following order:

i.        Higher marks in the section of legal aptitude in CLAT-2014

ii.      Higher age

iii.    Computerized draw of lots

Procedure to take admission under the NRI/NRI sponsored seats in various NLUs:

The candidate interested in seeking admission in any of the NLUs under the NRI/NRI sponsored seat shall undertake the CLAT-2014

The admission will be based on the merit in CLAT-2014

The students are also simultaneously required to complete the formalities of the respective universities, if any, for which the candidate need to, contact the respective university of interest for further information.
How To Apply:

CLAT 2014 application form

Only online applications will be accepted from this year onwards, by making a payment of Rs.4000 only (Rs.3500 in case of SC/ST candidates on submission of proof) excluding the bank charges.

You can also apply online. The online payment for applying for CLAT-2013 can be made through net-banking, debit card, credit card, etc. In case of online application, the candidates will have to bear the additional transaction costs for remitting the fees online through payment gateways.

Online application for CLAT 2014 will be active from 1 January - 31 March, 2014.

Important Dates:

Last date for submission of application form to apply: 31st Mar 2014

Date of Exam: 11th May, 2014 (Sunday) between 03.00 p.m. to 05.00 p.m.
