The University of Western Ontario and Student Financial Services are committed to providing the best possible service to students as well as helping you achieve your academic goals, regardless of your personal financial circumstances. One option available for many students to explore is accessing government loan and/or bursary funding. Merit Based Awards & Scholarships
Scholarships and Awards are established and funded by individual donors, corporations, Faculties, Departments, and the governing body of the University of Western Ontario. Scholarships and Awards are awarded in the Fall of each year based on the student's previous academic performance and current registration. These awards are taxable income and students are issued T4A's in February for the previous taxation year.

Financial Need-Based Programs offered by Western
The Bursary, Work Study and Need Based Award programs are all based on financial need. By submitting one Financial Assistance Profile Application students can be considered for the programs for which they are eligible (depending on their year and course load); students can choose if they wish to be considered for one or more of the programs when beginning the application process.

Student Financial Services Officers are financial counsellors who assist students and provide them with options to ensure they are able to continue their academic studies at Western. If you would like to consult with a counsellor, appointments can be made by calling 661-2100 during hours of operation.

Important Notice: It is the practice of the University to disclose a student’s name, address, biographical data faculty, academic programs, and any other information needed to confirm a student recipient’s eligibility and receipt of a specific scholarship, award or bursary to the donor of the scholarship, award or bursary.
A student’s name, name of the scholarship, bursary or award, faculty and or program, year of study and any other any other information relevant to the scholarship, award or bursary may also be included in publications prepared for donors that list recipients of donor-funded scholarships, awards and bursaries. Such publications will not include any contact information or other identifying details.
Any such publications will be distributed to donors who supported students and may also be presented to the families of deceased donors, official donor contacts and selected potential donors to encourage gifts.
If you do not wish to be included in such publications, you must log in to the Student Services website https://studentservices.uwo.ca/secure/index.cfm by May 30 of the relevant academic year. Select “My Present,” and under the Financial Assistance heading, you will see “Recipient Report Click here to opt out.” Your wishes will be honoured and your decision will in no way affect your eligibility to receive future scholarships, bursaries or need-based awards.
