Armed Forces Medical College, Pune is a premier medical institution in
Armed Forces Medical College was established on 01 May 1948. The institution conducts training of medical undergraduates and post-graduates, nursing undergraduates and post-graduates, dental postgraduates and paramedical staff. Patient care forms an integral part of the training curriculum and the affiliated hospitals utilise the expertise available at AFMC. The institution is responsible for providing the entire pool of specialists and super specialists to Armed Forces by giving them in-service training. Thus AFMC forms the backbone of high quality professional medical care being provided to the Armed Forces.
Col PP Chowdry, MC was the first Commandant of AFMC. The college is located in an environment friendly campus stretching over 119 Acres near Ramtekri in eastern Pune. Apart from well maintained gardens, the campus is home to an interesting mix of heritage buildings as well as ultramodern facilities. The campus is provided with all essential amenities. Apart from lecture halls, laboratories, demonstration rooms, museums, auditoriums, the students are provided fully furnished accommodation. The faculty and staff are also provided accommodation on campus.
Educational Qualification:
Only female candidates who have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible to apply. They should have scored an aggregate of not less than 50% marks in the final exams and should have passed the exam in the first attempt.
Selection Procedure: The selection will be based on the merit of the candidate at an All India level.
A written objective type of examination will be conducted in February/ March every year, at certain selected centers (Published from time to time.) Successful candidates will be called for an interview at selected centers in the month of April/May each year. Candidates must be declared medically fit. The fitness will be determined by a Medical Board of Military Medical Officers. Merit listed candidates based on the interview and medical fitness will be called for B.Sc. (Nsg) course. The students undergoing BSc nursing training will be granted permanent and Short Service Commission at a ratio of 60:40 based on their merit. The short service commission students are required to execute a bond of agreement to serve in the Military Nursing Service for a minimum period of 5yrs on successful completion of the course.
Written Examination Centres: The written examination will be conducted in selected centres all over India.
Stipend and Uniform Allowances: A stipend of Rs.250/- per month is given during the four years of training. A initial outfit allowance of Rs 800/- is given on joining the course and a outfit renewal allowance of Rs 300 per year during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of the course.

(d) Educational Qualification- Should have passed in the FIRST ATTEMPT the complete senior secondary (l0+2)/equivalent examination from a recognized Board/University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum 50% aggregate marks as a regular student. Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing for final year of qualifying examination during the current academic session may also apply. The candidates finally selected for the course will have to submit proof of passing the qualifying exam before joining the course. Those who have passed such examinations as private students or with compartment in any subject "are not eligible.
(e) Physical standards- Medical fitness will be determined as per Military Standards by Military Authorities. X-Ray examination of chest will be done.
Selection: Eligible applicants will be called for an objective type written test 61-90 minutes duration covering General English, Biology and General Intelligence, likely to be held in Jap/Feb 2014. The parts of question paper pertaining to Biology and General Intelligence will be bilingual. Candidates as per merit on the basis of written test will be called for interview during Mar/April 2014. Final selection will be based on combined merit, subject to medical fitness. .
Medical Examination: After the interview the recommended candidates will have to appear for .medical examination before a Special Medical Board (SMB). Candidates declared FIT/UNFIT will be informed by the President of the Medical Board including the procedure for requesting for APPEAL/REVIEW MEDICAL BOARD.
