    About Armed Forces Medical College:

    Armed Forces Medical College, Pune is a premier medical institution in India. AFMC has the distinction of being the first medical college set up by the Armed Forces of any country in Asia. The college is a unique institution which combines medical education with training specific to the health care needs of the Armed Forces. AFMC has been consistently rated among the top three medical colleges in India by surveys published by reputed newsmagazines for the past decade. It has received accreditation from NAAC with ‘A’ Grading and during re-accreditation carried out recently has been awarded cumulative grade point average of 3.51 out of a maximum 4, which was the highest ever awarded to any institution in India, till that time.


    Armed Forces Medical College was established on 01 May 1948. The institution conducts training of medical undergraduates and post-graduates, nursing undergraduates and post-graduates, dental postgraduates and paramedical staff.  Patient care forms an integral part of the training curriculum and the affiliated hospitals utilise the expertise available at AFMC.  The institution is responsible for providing the entire pool of specialists and super specialists to Armed Forces by giving them in-service training.  Thus AFMC forms the backbone of high quality professional medical care being provided to the Armed Forces.


    Col PP Chowdry, MC was the first Commandant of AFMC. The college is located in an environment friendly campus stretching over 119 Acres near Ramtekri in eastern Pune. Apart from well maintained gardens, the campus is home to an interesting mix of heritage buildings as well as ultramodern facilities. The campus is provided with all essential amenities. Apart from lecture halls, laboratories, demonstration rooms, museums, auditoriums, the students are provided fully furnished accommodation. The faculty and staff are also provided accommodation on campus.

    Educational Qualification:

    Only female candidates who have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible to apply. They should have scored an aggregate of not less than 50% marks in the final exams and should have passed the exam in the first attempt.

    Selection Procedure: The selection will be based on the merit of the candidate at an All India level.

    A written objective type of examination will be conducted in February/ March every year, at certain selected centers (Published from time to time.) Successful candidates will be called for an interview at selected centers in the month of April/May each year. Candidates must be declared medically fit. The fitness will be determined by a Medical Board of Military Medical Officers. Merit listed candidates based on the interview and medical fitness will be called for B.Sc. (Nsg) course. The students undergoing BSc nursing training will be granted permanent and Short Service Commission at a ratio of 60:40 based on their merit. The short service commission students are required to execute a bond of agreement to serve in the Military Nursing Service for a minimum period of 5yrs on successful completion of the course.

    Written Examination Centres: The written examination will be conducted in selected centres all over India.

    Stipend and Uniform Allowances: A stipend of Rs.250/- per month is given during the four years of training. A initial outfit allowance of Rs 800/- is given on joining the course and a outfit renewal allowance of Rs 300 per year during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of the course.

    (a)  Female candidates who are unmarried/divorcee/legally separated or widow without encumbrances

    (c)   Date of Birth- Between 01 Aug 85 and 31 Jul 94

    (d)  Educational Qualification- Should have passed in the FIRST ATTEMPT the complete senior secondary (l0+2)/equivalent examination from a recognized Board/University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum 50% aggregate marks as a regular student. Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing for final year of qualifying examination during the current academic session may also apply. The candidates finally selected for the course will have to submit proof of passing the qualifying exam before joining the course. Those who have passed such examinations as private students or with compartment in any subject "are not eligible.

    (e)  Physical standards- Medical fitness will be determined as per Military Standards by Military Authorities. X-Ray examination of chest will be done.

     

    Selection: Eligible applicants will be called for an objective type written test 61-90 minutes duration covering General English, Biology and General Intelligence, likely to be held in Jap/Feb 2014. The parts of question paper pertaining to Biology and General Intelligence will be bilingual. Candidates as per merit on the basis of written test will be called for interview during Mar/April 2014. Final selection will be based on combined merit, subject to medical fitness.  .

     

    Medical Examination: After the interview the recommended candidates will have to appear for .medical examination before a Special Medical Board (SMB). Candidates declared FIT/UNFIT will be informed by the President of the Medical Board including the procedure for requesting for APPEAL/REVIEW MEDICAL BOARD.

     

    Written Examination Centres: Bangalore, Chandimandir, Chennai Dehradun, Delhi, Danapur, Guwahati, Jabalpur, Jammu, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Secunderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Vishakapatnam. The number of centers may change as per the number - of candidates for the written test.

    Note: If sufficient number of candidates is not available at any centre, the candidates posting for that centre will be allotted the centre of their second choice.

    (f)    Four self-addressed envelopes (good quality) of size 27x12 cms with Postal Stamps of Rs 6/- be fixed on each envelope:

    (g)  An affidavit stating that you are issueless (in case of widows/divorcees)

    (h)  Legal documents of the divorcee and an affidavit that the matter is not under consideration with the higher court. These documents should be neatly tagged. Similar and recent Photo on the application form as well as on the admit cards should be pasted and not stapled. DGMS-4B will not be held responsible for loss of any documents while handling at any stage.

However, any unutilized vacancy is available to civilians. The selection for filling these vacancies is based on an entrance examination.  

     


    How to apply:

    Prospectus for post graduate courses and superspeciality courses for Armed Forces Medical College will be available by post on submission of demand draft for Rs. 500/- (Rs five hundred only) in favour of `Commandant AFMC, Pune’ along with self addressed envelope of the size 10” x 12” stamped with Rs.60/- postage stamps w.e.f 15 Nov 2008 to 15 Dec 2008 from Headquarters Training Office, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune-411 040. Prospectus may also be collected by hand from the office during working hours.

    Office hours are as under :-
    0830 hrs to 1615 hrs (Mon, Tue, Thur and Fri)
    1300 hrs to 1400 hrs lunch hour
    0830 hrs to 1330 hrs (Wed and Sat)

     

    For DM/MCh/PhD courses, the students will fill up the same application form. The departmental aptitude test will be held tentatively on second Sunday of May 2009.

     


    Comments:

    Last date of submission of filled forms is 20 Dec 2008.

     

    The PG entrance examination will be held on 18 Jan 2009 from 1030h to 1330 h.
