The Story of the Bangabasi College
An educational institution of national importance, Bangabasi College had its genesis in the prophetic vision and spirit of sacrificial dedication of Late Acharya Girish Chandra Bose. Founded under private management in 1887, it had as its guiding inspiration the genius of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. The aim of the institution was two fold : first, to cater to the growing demand for higher education and second, to nurture the spirit of nationalism in the minds of young learners under colonial yoke. At the same time, it marked an indirect protest challenging the narrow educational policy of the Hunter Commission.

Eligibility:
General: At least 55% marks in the Honours subject

Reservation of seats: Reservation of seats of SC/ST according to existing govt. rules is to be followed in both of the above mentioned categories

The candidates of reserved category (SC/ST) passed out from the University of Calcutta or from other Universities must secure a minimum of 45% marks in the Honours subject and also should have the marks in Honours subject which are not lower by more than 25% of the marks obtained by the last candidate selected for admission in the merit list of the general category

Candidates falling under 60% category will be called for counseling followed by necessary admission

Such candidates are supposed to take admission on the date of counseling

Strict adherence to the date of counseling / admission is a binding to the candidate

Candidates falling under 40% category are supposed to appear in the entrance test

Entrance test:

Entrance test will be of one hour duration having full marks -100 (50 questions (MCQ) each of 2 marks)

There will be negative marking; one mark will be deducted for wrong answer; zero credit will be given for non-attempted MCQ

Negative marking will also be implied for multiple attempts for a question

Selection:

Selection will be made in order of merit based on the marks obtained in Honours subject from the candidates present on the day of counseling

How to apply:
Application Procedure:

Application form can be obtained from our college website on and from 16th July, 2013 to 25th July, 2013

Complete filled up Application form along with photographs attached to the space provided and Xerox copies of necessary documents should be submitted in the Department of Zoology positively by 26th July, 2013 (between 12.00 noon and 02.30 pm)

It is customary to pay an amount of Rs.100/- as the cost of form at the cash counter of the College office before the submission of filled up form in the Department of Zoology

Therefore, they are asked to bring all necessary documents in original including receipt of Application form cum admit card issued by the College along with one attested copy of each ( if not submitted along with the Application Form) and an amount of Rs. 11,185/-in cash

Such candidates must reach and report to the Department of Zoology positively by 11.00 am along with all documents as mentioned in the admit card

No candidates will be allowed to enter the examination hall/ room after 11.30 a.m.

Provisional list of the candidates eligible for entrance examination will be published on 8th August, 2013 at 03.00 p.m. in college web site as well as in notice board of the Department
