  • About Gangadhar Meher University: Gangadhar Meher University (GMU), Sambalpur came into existence on the 30th May 2015 as a unitary institution of higher learning [The Government of Odisha Order No.11598/HE Dated 30.05.2015]. That was a momentous event for the people and student community of the Western Odisha for the fulfillment of their long cherished dream and aspirations. The newly formed University replaced the erstwhile Gangadhar Meher College (Autonomous). Consequently, the entire teaching and nonteaching staff of the G.M. College were deployed to G.M. University and became the stakeholders of the newly formed GMU. This transition was indeed the crowning glory for an institution that had a humble beginning at its inception way back in the pre-independence era.

    Eligibility:
    a. A consistently good academic career with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade at master’s level in the subject concerned for general candidates and 50% marks for SC/ST/PH candidates.

    b. The candidates who have qualified NET/SLET/GATE/JEST/DBT/INSPIRE/NFST/NFSC/ NFOBC/ICHR/ICPR/ICSSR/ ICMR are exempted from entrance test. The submission of the relevant documents is mandatory to claim the relaxation.

    c. Candidates who have cleared the M. Phil. program with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent and Research Methodology as one of the papers are exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test provided they have been admitted through a written/ interview (qualifying national tests like NET, GATE, etc) with project/dissertation work. The submission of M.Phil. Mark sheet is mandatory for such candidates on the date of Entrance Test. A relaxation of 5% marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/PH candidates.

    d. Exemption in entrance test on the basis of M.Phil. degree without Research Methodology and/ or qualifying entrance test at the national level does not confirm exemption from Ph.D. course work. The candidate with M.Phil. degree having Research Methodology as one of the papers will be exempted from Ph.D. course work. Rest of the candidates is required to complete the Ph.D. course work in the first six months of the Ph.D. program.

    e. Ph. D course work is a full-time course and as such a candidate who is employed cannot be admitted or allowed to continue in the program unless he/she has been duly relieved and produces proof to that effect.

    Admission: Admission into Ph.D. program shall be based strictly on merit. The merit list of a candidate will be made on the basis of career assessment and interview/ viva-voce i.e. 70% career assessment + 30% interview/ viva-voce. The qualifying mark in the viva voce is 40%. The entrance test which is of qualifying nature will be held on 26.10.2022 (10. am to 11:30 am) followed by viva-voce from 11.30 am onwards.

    Mode of obtaining Admission Form:

    Candidates should download the Admission Form from the university website and submit the filled–in form with an Original Bank Draft of Rs.1500/- drawn in favor of “The Comptroller of Finance, G. M. University, Sambalpur” and payable at Sambalpur.

    The Application duly filled in along with required documents should reach the undersigned on or before 20.10.2022 up to 4.00 pm either by post or in person. The university will not be responsible for any postal delays in the receipt of application form after the last date.
