- About Government Polytechnic College: It is one of the premier institutes imparting technical education to the thousands of students in North coastal Andhra region. It was established in the year 1956. It functions under the wing of Department of Technical education, Andhra Pradesh. Initially, it offered three courses in engineering branches -Mechanical, Electrical and Civil. In due course, three and half year sandwich courses in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering were introduced and these courses were later merged with Chemical Technology and Mechanical engineering respectively. Later, in the year 1966 a course in pharmacy and in 1981 a course in metallurgical engineering were introduced.
Located in the heart of city of destiny, Govt. Polytechnic has a credit of harbouring and nurturing skill based education to the student community. The contribution of this institute is evident in the work force fraternity settled in various sectors and contributing to the growth of state as well as nation through its alumni. The alumni of this coveted institute include eminent members in steel plant, various govt. and non govt. organisations.
Currently, it has been offering diploma courses in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical & Electronics, Metallurgical engineering and Pharmacy. In the first shift, five diploma courses ( Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Metallurgy and Pharmacy) are being offered,
While in the second shift three diploma Courses (Civil, Electrical and Electronics& Mechanical) are being offered.
Each branch has an intake of 60 students in the first year.
An approximate number of 1700 students are on roles.
Being an old institution, it has a very big campus in 23.68 acres with structures housing the class rooms and labs of in built up area of 14858.3Sqm.
It has a good library with a large voluminous collection of books, latest journals ranging from 25130 volumes, 8 magazine and 2 journals.
This college has eminent teaching faculty with highest educational qualification i.e 12 Ph.Ds and 25 M.techs 60 non-teaching staff.
It offers short term training courses in various skills under CDTP programme.
The institution has a hostel for boys attached to it and accommodating nearly 270 students.
Separate Hostel facility for girls also available.
There is an active training placement cell tied up with local and National level industries for helping the students tone up their skills so that they get placement in esteemed industries.
As the institute is located in the heart of the city, it has access to many engineering institutions and organizations which is very helpful in providing a bridge between the institute and the industry.
It offers various courses under Community polytechnic College scheme.
It has Skill Development centre for providing necessary technical and communication skills to update the knowledge of students. It runs courses on prozy-CAD and Communication skills
An active Alumni Association which involves in the progressive growth of the Polytechnic.
