Pattern of Admission Test

•      An Objective Aptitude Test (based on Basic Mathematics and Statistics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics, Public Finance, etc., the syllabus of which will be of undergraduate level Economics Programme). The duration of the exam will be for a maximum of 120 minutes.

Mode of Admission

AI Proctoring Based Entrance Exam shall be conducted on 9^th July 2022.

Mode of Admission

A maximum of five seats are allocated to the Foreign Nationals / NRIs. No separate admission test would be conducted. The admission will be offered on the basis of academic records (CGPA) in Graduation level. A selection committee will scrutinize the applications from Foreign Nationals / NRIs and accordingly prepare the merit list.

The cost of Application Form is one-time payment of Rs. 1,600/- (Rs. 800/- in respect of SC/ST/PwD candidates) and US$80 /Rs. 6,000 for Foreign Nationals/NRIs, which includes application screening and Admission Test Fee. The Fee is payable online while submitting the Application Form. The candidates are not required to pay any other fee.

SC/ST/PwD/OBC (Non-creamy layer)/GEN-EWS candidates need to upload the requisite certificates along with the Application form.

The eligibility criteria for applying in IIFT’s Ph.D. Programme (Management) are the following:

A. INDIAN SCHOLARS

(i) Ph.D. (Management) - Full Time & Part Time

(a) Master’s degree/M.Phil.degree in any discipline (including IIFT MPIB) from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or CGPA equivalent to B Plus in aggregate.

OR

Diploma courses which are considered equivalent to Master’s Degree (e.g., PGDIM from IIMs) with 55% marks or CGPA equivalent to B Plus, recognized by AICTE/UGC would be considered. In such cases, candidates would be required to produce the necessary certificate(s) from Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The period of diploma courses must be as per the Equivalence Granted by AIU to the Institute / University during that duration.

(b) A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ and differently-abled and other categories of candidates.

(c) Candidates who are in the final year of the Masters degree are also eligible to apply. However, if selected, their admission will be on provisional basis. Admission of such candidates who joins the Ph.D. Programme on provisional basis but fails to obtain minimum percentage in the Master’s degree examination (as defined in (a) above) is liable to be cancelled forthwith. Such candidates should immediately inform the Institution on declaration of her / his results. (d) No Age Limit

B. Overseas Scholars

•      Overseas candidates those who are having Master’s/ M.Phil. Degree in any discipline from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or CGPA equivalent to B Plus in aggregate can apply only for IIFT’s full time Ph.D. programme.

•      Minimum knowledge of spoken and written English is essential.

There is no scholarship, residential / hostel facility available for overseas scholars in the Institute. However, the Institute can help in search of suitable accommodation for scholars admitted into Ph.D. Programme.

Number of Seats: Delhi: 22 and Kolkata: 22.

Seats mentioned above for Delhi and Kolkata Centre are for both Full-Time and Part-Time Programme depending on merit and as per reservation policy of UGC.

Admission Process

Ph.D. (Management) (Full Time & Part Time)

A two-stage process is followed for admission to IIFT Ph.D. Programme (Management).

Stage I: All the eligible candidates will be called for the Written Entrance Test MCQ based comprising of Basic Statistics, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, basic Mathematics (upto 12th Standard), verbal ability.

Stage II: Candidates who qualify the Written Entrance Test will be called for the Interview*.

Application Form and Brochure for the Ph.D. Programme (Management) 2022 can be downloaded from the website. A. Indian Scholars

1.     Master’s degree in Economics from a recognized university with at least 55% marks (or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) in aggregate. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ OBC(NCL)/differently abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the University Grants Commission (UGC) from time to time. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% may also be allowed to those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.

2.     Candidates who are in the final year of the Master’s degree in Economics are also eligible to apply. However, if selected, their admission will be on provisional basis. Admission of such candidates who joins the Ph.D. Programme on provisional basis but fails to obtain minimum percentage in the Master’s degree examination (as defined in A above) is liable to be cancelled forthwith. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.

Important Enclosures to be uploaded with Online Application Form

1.     Copy of “Statement of Purpose” for the proposed Ph.D. Programme, clearly indicating the Research Interest/ Discipline/Area objective, etc. (4-5 pages).

2.     Self-Attested copies of certificates & mark-sheets of qualifying degrees and other certificates (from SSC level).

3.     Two letters of recommendation (in the format provided in the Application Form).

4.     Example of scholarly research or professional writing (Preferable though not mandatory)

5.     SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/GEN (EWS)/PwD category candidates need to attach the requisite certificate.
