  • About Indian Maritime University:

    The erstwhile National Institute of Port Management was set up as an autonomous organization and registered under the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act 1975 for the purpose of imparting training for the port personnel. The Institute has in later years expanded its activities to cover the training needs of merchant navy personnel as well. Ministry of Shipping, Government of India has recently notified the up-gradation of NIPM into National Maritime Academy in order to fully reflect the present scope of the Institute's activities and to further enhance the level of its coverage of maritime education and training. Accordingly, the Institute has been renamed as National Maritime Academy with effect from 07/02/2006.

    Eligibility:

    Under Graduate (U.G) degree with 10+2+( 3 or 4 ) pattern in a relevant discipline with at least 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), except in the case of Mariners for whom a Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency would suffice. For SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwD candidates, the minimum marks shall be 50% (or equivalent CGPA).

    Admission Process

    ·          The Written Test (Stage I) in Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) to test a Candidate’s General Mental Ability, knowledge on the Maritime sector, and knowledge on the relevant discipline/area of research in which the Candidate proposes to do the Ph.D/Integrated Ph.D. or M.S (By Research). This shall have 40% weightage. This test will have 120 Questions and the time duration is 2 hours.

    ·          Deive writing Test (Stage II) to assess proficiency in technical writing & English will be in the general area in which the Candidate is interested to do research. This shall have 30% weightage. Time duration for this will be 1 hour.

    ·          Personal Interview (Stage III) by the Departmental Committee which will be conducted at IMU Headquarters for the qualifying Candidates at a later date shall have 30% weightage.

    ·          To qualify to the Stage II, the Candidate should secure minimum 50% in Stage I. To qualify to the Stage III, the Candidate should secure minimum 50% in Stage II.

    ·          For the convenience of the Candidates, Deive Writing Test (Stage II) will be conducted immediately after the Written Test (Stage I) at the same test venue. However the answer s of those Candidates who secure 50% or more in Stage I will be evaluated to finalize the list of Candidates eligible for Personal Interview (Stage III).

    ·          Candidate may choose to join the programme in Full time or Part time.

    Facility for applicants to download their Hall Tickets/ Admit Cards with the name of the Test Venue indicated.

    Automated e-mails/SMS will be sent to every registered applicant on successful registration of Application, uploading of Hall Ticket, publication of results, etc.

    Eligibility:
    Category-I: A Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with minimum of 50% marks from recognized universities and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th / UG Degree.

    Note: In case of SC/ST Candidates, there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; However, it will not apply to English Marks. Candidates under this category must appear for the IMU’s Common Entrance Test (CET) and qualify in order to be eligible for admission to this Programme. OR

    Category-II: 50% of seats in each IMU Campus where M.Sc (Commercial Shipping & Logistics) is being offered shall be reserved for seafarers with Master (FG) Certificate of Competency or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency. There will be no CET for Category-II candidates. If the number of applications from qualified seafarers is less than the number of reserved seats, the vacant seats will be allotted to the candidates from Category-I. If the number of applications from qualified seafarers is greater than the number of reserved seats, then IMU will conduct a separate Offline Entrance Test for selecting Category-II candidates for the Programme.

You have to download your application form from the official website and fill it in a prescribed manner without doing any error and submit it on online or you can send it also on the department address along with all the required documents and application fee.

    Applicants those belong to General and OBC category have to pay non-refundable application fee of Rs- 1000. Applicants those belong to SC/ ST category have to pay non-refundable Rs- 750. It should be paid through a crossed Demand draft drawn in favor of Indian Maritime University, payable at Chennai.
