About National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute:
National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) is the first Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, established in India on 18th February 2010. The institute aims at catalysing the transformation of Agri - food sector in India. The institute has the vision to be a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value added products based on Agri-food biotech innovations. The main research focus of NABI is to harness biotechnological tools in the area of Agriculture Biotechnology, Food and Nutritional Biotechnology so as to provide sustainable and novel solutions towards quality food and nutrition. Activities undertaken at NABI under different areas includes, i) Agricultural Biotechnology,(ii) Food and Nutritional Biotechnology, (iii) Human Resource Development,(iv) Meeting and Courses, and (v) Technology Transfer and Outreach. The institute has developed strong linkages with National and International organizations and industries. The institute is part of agri-food cluster in the “Knowledge City” of Mohali (Punjab) along with its neighboring institutes.

Course Description: PhD (Biotechnology) [Research work: Agricultural Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, and Nutrition Biotechnology]

Eligibility:
i)       Minimum qualification: M.Sc./M.Tech in any area of life sciences/ M.Pharma/ M.V.Sc./ M.B.B.S. or an equivalent degree.
ii)      Qualifying marks: 55% total marks or equivalent score in the qualifying degree (5% relaxation will be given to SC/ST/OBC as per GOI norms).
iii)     In addition to above, the candidate for admission shall qualify a national level test for pursuing Doctor of Philosophy programme and such test include a doctoral fellowship or admission eligibility test conducted at the national level by the University Grants Commission (UGC), or Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), or Department of Science and Technology (DST), or Department of Biotechnology (DBT), or any other Government recognised agency.
Candidates who have appeared, or will be appearing, in the qualifying degree examination (final year/final semester) and whose result is still awaited may also apply. However, the admission is pursuant to satisfactory fulfilment of the aforementioned eligibility criteria/requirements at the time of joining.
Fellowship

The students admitted to the program will have to avail the fellowship offered to them from the different granting agencies as per their rules.
