All applicants applying for the B.Des. and GDPD programmes must fulfill criteria of both age and education qualification.

Age Limit:

·          For Indian Nationals in General Category and General EWS Category:  Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission.

·          For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer  (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST)):  Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1997 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification:

Applications for academic year 2020-21 are open to applicants who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2019-20 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent.

Examinations considered equivalent to these are as follows:

·          Final examination of the 10+2 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

·          Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognised by the Association of Indian Universities.

·          Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

·          Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.

·          Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities.

·          H.S.C. vocational examination.

·          General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka.

·          AICTE approved three-year Full time Diploma after Class X offered by Board of Technical Education of  any state in India or Union Territories as mentioned on http://www.facilities.aicte-india.org

·          Candidates who have completed final examinations for class XII (or equivalent) outside India or from a board not specified above should produce an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India. The certificate is required to be submitted at the time of document verification.

(The qualifications mentioned are required to be from accredited/recognised institutes or universities of India1 OR equivalent qualifications from foreign educational institutes2.)

To be eligible for selection to the PhD programme, the candidate must be a citizen of India and hold at least one of the following qualifications:

A Master’s level qualification3 in Design,

OR

A Bachelor’s level qualification in Design4 from NID,

PLUS

A minimum of 3 years of professional or teaching experience.

OR

Master’ s degree in Philosophy(eg, M.Phil) in Design

OR

Successful completion of Faculty Development Programme of NID

or

of a similar program for the Design field of at least two years from any other recognised University.

Candidates who are scheduled to complete the final year of their qualifying examinations and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply for the PhD programme. In such cases, their candidature shall be provisional and confirmation of selection shall be subject to successful completion of the qualifying exams. Provisional acceptance will be confirmed only if the candidates secure the minimum grade/marks in their qualifying examination and submit its results to the Institute before the commencement of the programme. Failing this, the provisional status granted to such candidates shall automatically stand cancelled.

·          55% marks in aggregate, or

·          grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale, or

·          an equivalent grade in other scales

Condition: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in April/May 2020*.

OR

Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations before June 2019.

OR

Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Diploma examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in April/May 2020*.

* Applicants in the final year of their Bachelor degree/ Full-time Diploma programme whose universities may not have issued the final degree certificate by the date of application to NID, are eligible to apply, subject to passing all subjects without any backlog. Such candidate will have to submit/produce Provisional Degree certificate at the time of counseling.

Note:

In case the degree/certificate has been obtained from a university/board of any country other than India, an equivalence certificate must be obtained by the candidate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in June 2020. NID 2019 Application Process:

·          Candidates aspiring for admission to the programs may apply online or download application form from our official website and follow the steps below:

·          Application Form of NID 2019 is available from 09th November 2018 onwards. Aspirants will be able to fill the form in online mode only. The application fee is Rs.2000/- for General category candidates and Rs.1000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates

·          Relevant information related to admissions to GDPD Program at NID Vijayawada is provided in the NID Vijayawada prospectus, available on the website.

Application Fee:

Candidates can pay the application fee via Online (by Credit Card/ Debit Card) or by Demand Draft. If paying the fee by DD take a printout of their NID Entrance Exam 2019 application form and thereafter send it along with the DD. Also, aspirants need to fill all the details regarding their DD in their online application form

b) Relevant information related to admissions to GDPD programme at NID Vijayawada is provided in the prospectus of NID Vijayawada, download from this website.
c) Please Note: The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is common for applicants for both B.Des. (at Ahmedabad) and GDPD (at Vijayawada).

Step 1: Sign up
a) Register / signup online at http://admissions.nid.edu by filling in the required details.
b) Please ensure that the email id and mobile number you provide should be valid for atleast one year.
c) Login to your account using the email id and date of birth provided during signup.

Step 2: Fill Application Form
a) Login and proceed to Step 2 – Application Form.
b) For applicants applying to undergraduate programmes, Please make a choice for the specific programme – (i) only B.Des. (ii) only GDPD (iii) both B.Des. and GDPD. Please note that once the payment formalities are completed, this choice cannot be altered..
c) Fill all the required details in the application form.
d) ‘Save & Exit’. You can always login at a later time and continue to complete the application process.
e) If you have your scanned photograph and signature as per the instructions, then Go to ‘Save & Proceed’ to ‘Upload Document Section’.

Step 3: Upload Photograph & Signature
a) Upload scanned photograph as per the instructions. It should be in JPEG format only not exceeding 100 kb size. Browse / choose your scanned photograph from your computer and click on ‘Upload’.
b) Upload scanned signature as per the instructions. It should be in JPEG format only not exceeding 100 kb size. Browse / choose your scanned signature from your computer and click on ‘Upload’.
c) After uploading scanned photograph and signature, Save your application OR click on ‘Save & Proceed’ to Payment section.

Step 4: Pay application fee & Print
a) Select mode of payment to pay the application fees online by Credit / Debit Card or offline by Demand Draft and submit the required details.
b) After verifying the details submitted you can proceed to make payment. c) Note: After making the payment of application fees, you will not be able modify / edit any information provided during the submission of application form.
d) After making payment successfully, you will be redirected to the Print section. You can take a print of the application form submitted for your reference or save it as PDF file.
e) If you are making payment by demand draft, you must complete the process of online submission of application form before 27 November, 2015.
f) Then, to complete the application process, you must send the demand draft and a printout of your application form in a single envelope, so as to reach the following address before 11 December, 2015

Reserved category candidates must send an attested copy of the relevant certificate from the competent authority. SC/ST candidates must send their caste certificate. PH candidates must send disability certificate From the Chief Medical Officer. OBC candidates must send non-creamy layer certificate as per the given format on the website admissions.nid.edu Incomplete or incorrectly filled application forms/ forms not satisfying eligibility criteria/ forms without required documents/ forms without required fees will be rejected. Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2), or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ICSE etc. Candidates passing the Institute’s admission tests/ interviews will be admitted, subject to passing their qualifying examinations before they join the Institute.

Competence in technical and related subjects will normally be considered an advantage. The medium of instruction for UG programme at NID is English. Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories)

Application Forms

For General Category: Forms can be downloaded from NID’s www.nid.edu/downloads and sent along with a DD of Rs 1500/- drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad. Forms can also be obtained from select branches of Bank of India (listed below) on payment of Rs 1,500/- towards the cost of the form plus Rs 50/- as bank charges.

For Reserved Category: Forms at concessional rates to reserved categories are available only from Admissions Office, NID, Ahmedabad. These forms can be obtained from Admissions Office directly by sending a Demand Draft drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad for Rs 750/-. The applicant should also send in an attested copy of the relevant certificate from competent authority and a self addressed envelope of 9” x 12” size with Rs 40/- stamps affixed. The envelope should be marked with ‘NID ADMISSIONS 2011’.

Reserved category candidates must attach relevant certificate of Caste/Category otherwise the application form will not be provided/will be rejected. OBC candidates are required to submit non-creamy layer certificate from the Collectoratess. PH candidates are required to submit certificate from the Chief Medical Officer.

The incomplete application forms / not satisfying eligibility criteria/ incorrect forms/ forms without required fees will be rejected. The application form fee (Rs 1, 500/ Rs 750) for rejected applications will not be refunded. No official communication will be made regarding rejected application forms.
