On 28th August 2006, the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh announced for the establishment of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) at Bhubaneswar, which will be operated under the umbrella of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) of Govt. of India. He announced that theNISER will facilitate the synergy between research and higher education in science. He had stated categorically that NISER will be compared with the best institutions in the country in terms of facilities and faculty.The Atomic Energy Commission, in its 182nd meeting held on 16.03.2007 approved the proposal for establishment of NISER at Bhubaneswar. Till the permanent campus comes up, NISER will be functioning from the beautiful campus of the Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar, a renowned Institute with state-of-art infrastructure that includes an excellent library, a large computer centre and a number of outstanding research laboratories. Dr. Viyogi, the director of Institute of Physics was given the official charge of NISER.
· Biological Sciences: 60% or equivalent GPA in Masters or M. Tech or M. Pharm in any branches of Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Life Sciences, Pharmacy (any specialization), Veterinary Sciences, Computer Sciences, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. Students with Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics having interest in pursuing a career in Biology are also encouraged to apply
Requirement of Qualifying in National Level Examinations for pursuing Ph.D program: Candidates should have qualified at least one of the National Level Examinations i.e. CSIR-UGC-NET(LSor JRF) /GATE/JEST/GPAT/DBT/ICMR/JGEEBILS or any other equivalent national level examination valid for the academic year 2021-2022.
· Chemical Sciences: 60% or equivalent GPA in Masters in Chemistry or allied Chemistry fields. Student with Master’s degree in any branches of BasicSciences with undergraduate degree in Chemistry (orchemistry as one of the subjects) or M.Tech in appliedChemistry or Computer Sciences with interest in pursuing a career in Chemistry are also encouraged to apply.
Requirement of Qualifying in National Level Examinations for pursuing Ph.D program: Candidates should have qualified at least one of these National Level Examinations i.e. CSIR-UGC NET (LS or JRF)/GATEvalid for the academic year 2021-2022.
· Computer Sciences: 60% or equivalent GPA in Masters in Computer Science/Mathematics/Electronics/Electrical Engineering or related fields.
Requirement of Qualifying in National Level Examinations for pursuing Ph.D program: Candidatesshould have qualified at least one of these National LevelExaminations i.e. CSIR-UGC-NET(JRF)/GATE/JEST valid for theacademic year 2021-2022.
· Mathematical Sciences: 60% or equivalent GPA in Master’sdegree examination
Requirement of Qualifying in National Level Examinations for pursuing Ph.D program: Candidates should have qualified at least one of these National Level Examinations in Mathematical Sciencesi.e. CSIR-UGC-NET (JRF only) /GATE/NBHM*or any other equivalent national level examination valid for the academic year 2021-2022.
· The application form has to be filled up online through the website and candidates should follow stepwise instructions mentioned to complete the application submission process. At the time of application, along with this online form, the candidate should upload soft copy of the supporting documents as per the eligibility criteria.
· Candidates intending to apply for more than one school should fill up online application forms for each school and submit separate forms with appropriate supporting documents.
· Two sealed letters of reference in the prescribed format with signature of the referee on the envelope should be produced by the student at the time of interview. The Copy of the reference letter is available Online on the website.
· NISER does not demand any application fee from the candidates who apply for Ph.D program.
Fellowship
1. Students with institute fellowship from NISER will be eligible to draw Rs. 31,000/- for first two years, which will subsequently be enhanced to Rs. 35,000/- for remaining three years, subject to the condition that he/she fulfills all the requirements of the Institute that will be stipulated from time to time.
2. Students with external fellowship from agencies viz. CSIR, UGC etc will be eligible to draw fellowship as per the extant rules of the respective funding agencies.

Candidates must qualify all four eligibility criteria listed below:
· Candidates in General and OBC category should be born on or after August 01, 2000. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Divyangjan candidates.
· Class XII qualifying examination should be passed in either 2018 or 2019. Candidates appearing in 2020 are also eligible. (Where only Letter Grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)
· At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Divyangjan candidates, the minimum requirement is 55%.
· Candidate should secure a position in the NEST merit list.
To apply for NEST 2020, candidates must fill–up the online application form through www.nestexam.in on or after January 07, 2020. Candidates are strongly advised to read through the detailed online application procedure available on the website (click on ‘How to Apply online’). Online application process closes on April 3rd, 2020. Application can be
Submitted only through NEST 2020 website. There is no other mode of application submission. Login credentials for logging into application submission and fee payment portals will be provided upon online registration.
Application Fee: The application fee for the male candidates of General and OBC categories is Rs. 1,200/–. The application fee for candidates in the SC/ST/PwD categories and for all female candidates is Rs. 600/–. Payments can be made using credit card/debit
card/net–banking through online payment gateway. Please use Mastercard/Visa/RuPay cards only.
Candidates need not send any document to NEST office in the entire application process. Please refer to the instruction sheet (the ‘How to Apply Online’ tab on website) for details regarding application process.
Admit card: The admit card for NEST 2020 will be available for downloading from April 24, 2020. Admit cards will NOT be dispatched to any applicant. Applicants must download their admit cards from NEST website (after login). The download link will be available only till the day of examination.
