Minimum Eligibility/ Minimum Educational Qualifications and Student Category for Application:

Educational Qualifications:

Ph. D in Engineering Discipline:

·          An applicant possessing the prescribed qualifications as mentioned below shall be eligible for admission to a Ph.D. program of the institute.

Master’s degree in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.5 on a 10-point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks in aggregate where marks are awarded. B. Tech degree and Dual Degree (B. Tech & M. Tech) holders having final CGPA >= 8.00 from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) or National Institute of Technology (NITs) /Universities/ or equivalent with a valid GATE score will be eligible for admission in Ph.D.

OR

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology with a minimum of 70% marks in aggregate or  equivalent CGPA and a minimum of 10 years of work experience (at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent) in an engineering degree level technical Institute or R&D organization/industry, and Evidence of Master’s level R&D work completed.

Ph. D in Sciences:-

Minimum Requirement: Master’s Degree in appropriate branch of sciences with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA at Master’s and/or Bachelor’s Levels.

Additional Requirement: Candidate must have GATE score/CSIR/UGC/NBHM award/NBHM award/fellowship for full time Ph.D.

Part-time applicants will be eligible under three categories:

·          Candidates from organizations which have MOU with NIT Delhi.

·          Organizations with R & D labs of National Repute.

·          Regular faculty/ Teaching cum Research Fellow or Scientists from Educational Institutions, R & D organizations, and Govt. Department/ Govt. Undertaking provided that the applicant possesses the minimum entry qualifications for the degree as given in R 3.1 (PhD ordinance 2021); the applicant is in position to complete mandatory course requirements along with regular counterparts; the applicant proves to the satisfaction of NIT Delhi that his official duties permits him to devote sufficient time to research.

·          Project staff(s)/ student(s) under projects sponsored by DST/UGC/any government agency, industry or centers established from grant in aid from government or international agencies at NIT Delhi may be given administrative clearance to seek admission on full time/part time basis subject to recommendations of the concerned Principal Investigator of the said Project and approval of Competent Authority. However he must fulfill the eligibility criteria as per R 3.1. (PhD ordinance 2021) No relaxation will be given in screening test.

Additional Eligibility Conditions for Part-Time Ph.D. Admission

1.     The applicants should be professionally employed as engineers or scientists or Equivalent in Public Sector Undertakings or Government Departments or national level R&D organization/national laboratories/industry, having sufficient facilities to carry out research at their place.

2.     Regular faculty of reputed Institute/University/College having sufficient facilities to carry out research at their place in the related research area.

3.     All such candidates should have a minimum experience of two years at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent as regular employee in the sponsoring institute/university/college/organization or R & D organization / national laboratory/industry at the time of applying for admission.

4.     Minimum qualification for these candidates is the same as that for full-time candidates.

5.     Part-time candidates are required to submit a “No Objection Certificate“’ on a proper letterhead from the appropriate authority in the organization clearly stating the following:

•      The candidate is permitted to pursue studies on a part-time basis.

•      That his/her official duties permit him/her to devote sufficient time for research.

•      Facilities for research in the candidate’s field of research are available at the candidate’s place of work.

Important Notes:

1.     Merely fulfilling above minimum eligibility criteria does not ensure the selection or even eligibility for the entrance test/ interview or both.

2.     Regarding selection, the decision of the Competent Authority will be treated as final one.

Procedure for Online Application:

1.     Students have to fill up the online Google Form within stipulated time mentioned. Late submissions will not be entertained, under any circumstances.

5.     A candidate interested in applying in more than one department/ category shall be required to submit separate application forms along with appropriate fees and documents.

10. Incomplete, improper and wrong applications and applications received after due date will not be considered for short-listing

4.       A non-refundable application fee of Rs.1000/- (Rs.500/- for SC/ST/PH candidates) is to be paid through a crossed demand draft drawn in favour of Director, National Institute of Technology Delhi payable at Delhi. 
5.       Sponsored candidates should send their applications through proper channel. Late applications shall not be entertained. 
6.       Incomplete applications and applications received after due date will not be considered for admissions. 
7.       The envelope must be supered as “APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO PhD PROGRAMME (Full Time / Sponsored) IN THE DEPARTMENT OF _________________under the student Category”.
