    National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra (founded as Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra) is a premier technical Institute in the region. Since 1963, like other Regional Engineering Colleges of India, this Institute too, had been a joint enterprise of the state and the central government. This Institute was conferred upon the status of deemed to be university, along with other Regional Engineering College on June 26, 2002. Since then it has been renamed as National Institute of Technology, Kuruksetra and is a centrally funded Institute. Recently, the Institute had been declared as Institution of national importance by MHRD, Government of India

    Eligibility:
    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
    The eligibility criterion is as under:
    ·          Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislatures in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India / AIU. This degree must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (Class 12 or equivalent) 10+2+3 system.
    ·          The minimum percentage requirement in Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification is 50% (45% for SC/ST applicants).
    ·          Basis for admission will be as follows:
    CAT/CMAT/MAT or any other National level test
    Valid score of 2021 & 2022: 70 Marks
    Performance in GD (20 Marks) and PI (10 Marks): 30 Marks*
    The candidate must obtain minimum 50% marks each in GD and PI in order to qualify for further process.

    How to apply:
    Download the application form from the website nitkkr.ac.in. fill and send the application form complete in all respects along with all relevant documents and application fee before the due date. shortlisted candidates list and the schedule for group discussion and personal interview (to be held at NIT Kurukshetra in the month of June 2022) will be put on the Institute website.
    No Separate Intimation will be given for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
    Based on the Performance in Group Discussion and Personal Interview and CAT/CMAT/MAT/ any other National Level Test score a merit list will be prepared and displayed on the institute website. waitlisted candidates will be offered admission if seats stay vacant.
    Note: Fee refund issues will be dealt according to prevalent NIT Rules.

    Educational Qualifications:

    An applicant possessing the prescribed qualifications shall  be  eligible for admission to  a  Ph.D.  program  of the  institute.  Degrees  obtained  through  distance  education programs  shall  not  be  considered.  The  course  as  well  as  University  of qualifying degree  must  be  recognized  by  AICTE  /UGC  and  will  be  verified  by  Academic Section before registration. In order to  encourage the candidates for interdisciplinary research which is  the state of art in today's scenario, the eligibility criteria for Ph.D. is  as below: Master's degree  in respective discipline or equivalent with a  minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.5 on a  I O­point scale or equivalent as determined by  the  Institute  wherever  letter  grades  are  awarded;  or  60%  marks  in  aggregate where marks are awarded.

    OR

    Bachelor's  degree  in  Engineering/Technology  with  a  minimum  of 70%  marks in aggregate  or equivalent CGPA  and  a  minimum  of 10  years  of work  experience (at the  level  of  Assistant  Professor  or  equivalent)  in  an  engineering  degree  level. technical  Institute  or  R&D  organization/industry,  and  Evidence  of Master's  level R&D work completed.

    Additional Eligibility Conditions for Part-Time Ph.D. Admission

    (i)  The applicants should be professionally employed as engineers or scientists in Public Sector Undertakings or Government Departments or national level R&D organisation/national laboratories/industry, having sufficient facilities to carry out research at their place.

    (ii) Regular faculty of reputed Institute/University/College having sufficient facilities to carry out research at their place in the related research area. All such candidates should have a minimum experience of two years at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent as regular employee in the sponsoring institute/university/college/organisation or R&D organization / national laboratory/industry at the time of applying for admission.

    Minimum qualification for these candidates is the same as for full-time candidates.

    Part-time candidates are required to submit a "No Objection Certificate" on a proper letterhead from the appropriate authority in the organization clearly stating the following:

    •     The candidate is permitted to pursue studies on a part-time basis

    •     That his/her official duties permit him/her to devote sufficient time for research.

    •     Facilities for research in the candidate's field of research are available at the candidate's place of work

    2. Bachelor’s Degree Certificate and Marks Sheet.

    5. Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe / OBC (NCL)/ EWS/PwD

    6. SC/ST & PwD certificate as per norms/format of Govt. of India.

    7. OBC (NCL) & EWS Certificate must be issued on or after April 1st 2021 and as per GOI format.

    8. SC/ST/PWD/OBC-NCL Certificates should be as per the Government of India norms.

    Note:

    1.   Payment should be made through SBI-I-Collect.

    2.   In case of admission, a student has to submit the Migration Certificate in original within one month from the date of registration.

    3.   Incomplete applications and applications received after due date will not be considered and application fee in any case will not be refunded.

    4.   In case of admission a part time candidate must submit a copy of the leave/relieving letter from sponsoring Institute/Industry in the Office of the Dean Academic and concerned Department while enrolling for course work.

    Seats will first be filled by GATE qualified candidates and the remaining vacant seats, if any, shall be offered to other candidates on the basis of their marks or CGPA in the qualifying examination.     For candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from a University other than this Institute i.e. N.I.T. Kurukshetra, a Migration Certificate will have to be submitted ordinarily within one month of admission. In case the Migration Certificate is not submitted by the date specified the provisional admission of the student is likely to be cancelled as per Institute rules.

    Eligibility:

    F       Master’s degree (MTech/ ME/ MS) or equivalent in appropriate discipline with a minimum of 65% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters of the course), or equivalent CGPA, preceded by a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology

                                                           OR

    F       Bachelor’s degree (BTech/ BE) in appropriate discipline, or equivalent, with a minimum of 90% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters of the course), or equivalent CGPA. Such a candidate has to clear compulsorily at least four theory courses of MTech in relevant discipline, as decided by the DRC.

                                                             OR

    F       Bachelor’s degree (BTech/ BE) in appropriate discipline, or equivalent, with a minimum of 70% marks in aggregate ( of all the years/ semesters of the course), or equivalent CGPA, and a minimum of 15 years of regular service in Govt. Organizations or teaching institutes of degree level. Such a candidate has to clear compulsorily at least four theory courses of M. Tech. in relevant discipline, as decided by the DRC.

     

    Additional Eligibility Conditions for Part-Time PhD Admission

    a)     The applicant should be an employee of an educational institute/org and must have completed on the last day of receiving applications, a minimum of two years of continuous service as at least a Lecturer or equivalent.

    b)     The candidate proves to the satisfaction of the DRC that his/her official duties permit him to devote sufficient time to research.

    c)      The candidate proves to the satisfaction of the DRC that facilities for pursuing research are available at his place of work in the chosen field of research.

    d)     He will be required to visit NITK (on working days) to meet his supervisor in the Department at least twice in each semester at intervals of not less than a month, and such visit be reported to the Chairman of the DRC for record.

     

    Eligibility for Institute Scholarship

    1)     Only full-time PhD research scholars are eligible for the award of the Institute scholarship.

    2)     A candidate/scholar is required to apply for scholarship. In a particular department, scholarships will be awarded only if these are available in that department.

    3)     The eligibility for scholarship and its amount will be as per the guidelines issued from time to time by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India.

    4)     Those who are awarded scholarship from any other source will not be eligible for the Institute scholarship.

    5)     In case the semester research progress is unsatisfactory, the scholarship shall be discontinued/ stopped.

    6)     A Ph.D. research scholar receiving scholarship is required to devote at least eight hours per week towards the departmental or Institute work assigned to him/her by the Chairman/ Director.

     

    Reservation/ Relaxation

    F       Fifteen percent (15%) scholarship (of the total sanctioned Institutional scholarships) shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste applicants and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe applicants. A total of 3% scholarships, over and above the sanctioned strength, will be reserved for physically handicapped (PH) applicants in all the PhD programmes of the Institute put together.

    F       For the SC/ST/physically handicapped applicants, the eligibility requirement of marks may be relaxed by 5%, or by an equivalent CGPA.

    Additional Eligibility Conditions for Part-Time PhD Admission

    a)     The applicant should be an employee of an educational institute/org and must have completed on the last day of receiving applications, a minimum of two years of continuous service as at least a Lecturer or equivalent.

    b)     The candidate proves to the satisfaction of the DRC that his/her official duties permit him to devote sufficient time to research.

    c)      The candidate proves to the satisfaction of the DRC that facilities for pursuing research are available at his place of work in the chosen field of research.

    d)     He will be required to visit NITK (on working days) to meet his supervisor in the Department at least twice in each semester at intervals of not less than a month, and such visit be reported to the Chairman of the DRC for record.

     

    Eligibility for Institute Scholarship

    1)     Only full-time PhD research scholars are eligible for the award of the Institute scholarship.

    2)     A candidate/scholar is required to apply for scholarship. In a particular department, scholarships will be awarded only if these are available in that department.

    3)     The eligibility for scholarship and its amount will be as per the guidelines issued from time to time by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India.

    4)     Those who are awarded scholarship from any other source will not be eligible for the Institute scholarship.

    5)     In case the semester research progress is unsatisfactory, the scholarship shall be discontinued/ stopped.

    6)     A Ph.D. research scholar receiving scholarship is required to devote at least eight hours per week towards the departmental or Institute work assigned to him/her by the Chairman/ Director.

     

    Reservation/ Relaxation

    F       Fifteen percent (15%) scholarship (of the total sanctioned Institutional scholarships) shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste applicants and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe applicants. A total of 3% scholarships, over and above the sanctioned strength, will be reserved for physically handicapped (PH) applicants in all the PhD programmes of the Institute put together.

    Only full-time PhD research scholars are eligible for the award of the Institute scholarship.

    F       The eligibility for scholarship and its amount will be as per the guidelines issued from time to time by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India.

    F       Those who are awarded scholarship from any other source will not be eligible for the Institute scholarship.

    F       In case the semester research progress is unsatisfactory, the scholarship shall be discontinued/ stopped.

    F       A Ph.D. research scholar receiving scholarship is required to devote at least eight hours per week towards the departmental or Institute work assigned to him/her by the Chairman/ Director.

     

    Reservation/ Relaxation

    F       Fifteen percent (15%) scholarship (of the total sanctioned Institutional scholarships) shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste applicants and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe applicants. A total of 3% scholarships, over and above the sanctioned strength, will be reserved for physically handicapped (PH) applicants in all the PhD programmes of the Institute put together.

    F       For the SC/ST/physically handicapped applicants, the eligibility requirement of marks may be relaxed by 5%, or by an equivalent CGPA.

    Eligibility:

    A candidate for being eligible for admission to the Master of Technology courses in National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra should have passed B.Sc. (Engineering)/ B.Tech. /B.E. Degree or equivalent examination in the relevant discipline as mentioned below: <<<Click here>>>

     

    Discipline that are eligible for admission: Electrical Engineering / Electronics and Communication Engineering Instrumentation Engineering/ MSc (Physics) with minimum of two courses in Electronics and MSc Electronics

     

    Centralized admission shall be based on GATE Score only

     

    For Sponsored Candidates 60% marks in qualifying degree examination or CGPA 6.67 on 10 point scales (50% marks or CGPA 5.56 on 10 point scale, if belonging to SC/ST). On last date of applying, two years experience in the organization(s) of the types specified, out of which at least one year continuous experience should be as regular employee in the sponsoring organization

     

    For SC/ST Category (including Sponsored Candidates) 50% marks in qualifying degree examination (or 5.56 CGPA on 10 point scale)

     

    For AMIE candidates 55% marks in qualifying examination on last date of applying

     

    Basis for Selection: A merit list of the eligible candidates will be drawn on the basis of their valid GATE score only (i.e. 100% weight age to GATE score and no weight age to qualifying degree marks).

     

    Note: Provisional admission in M.Tech is allowed for those students having valid Gate Score and B.Tech./BE 7th Semester result. For those coming from Science stream and annual examination system, the results of the previous year be considered. However, these students will furnish an undertaking to the effect that their admissions will be regularized only after clearance of the final examination and compliance to the academic qualifying requirements by the 15th September, 2008.

     

    Seats will first be filled by GATE qualified candidates and the remaining vacant seats, if any, shall be offered to other candidates on the basis of their marks or CGPA in the qualifying examination. Non-GATE candidates, however, shall be considered for any scholarship as per latest MHRD guidelines.

     

    For candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from a University other than this Institute i.e. N.I.T. Kurukshetra, a Migration Certificate will have to be submitted ordinarily within one month of admission. In case the Migration Certificate is not submitted by the date specified the provisional admission of the student is likely to be cancelled as per Institute rules.

     


    How to apply:

     

    Prospectus is available in the Institute against cash payment of Rs.1,000/- or by sending a Demand Draft for Rs.1,050/- in favour of Director, NIT, Kurukshetra payable at SBI, Kurukshetra. Forms can also be downloaded from the Institute Website,  in which case the applicants are required to attach a bank draft of Rs.1, 000/- along with their application.

     

    The Merit list will be displayed on Institute website by concerned deptts. On 19.06.2008

     

    Interviews for admissions will take place on 24.06.2008. The list of eligible candidates to appear for admission interview will be available on the Institute website.
