NIT Meghalaya took birth in 2010 and started functioning from its temporary campus in Shillong in 2012. Its permanent campus is being set-up at Sohra (Cherapunjee). The campus will come up with state-of-the-art infrastructures and all the necessary modern amenities while maintaining harmony with the serene environment of Sohra. The aim is to build it to be a centre of excellence in education and research in the fields of engineering, science and technology. The vision is to develop it to be an Institution vibrant with academic activities and bubbling with youthful creative energy. The challenge is to overcome the apparent deficiencies due to its location and turn them into advantage.
The Institute's efforts since the starting of its functioning in Shillong have been to set-up the best possibilities facilities within the limited available space. Being in a nascent stage the Institute needs lots of support and care from all quarters to bring it up.
The Institute currently offers B. Tech. programme in five disciplines and Ph. D. programme in various Engineering, Science and Humanities disciplines. From 2014-15 it is starting M. Tech programme in the three disciplines of Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The Institute shall soon start UG, PG programmes in various other Engineering and Science disciplines too that are of relevance to the State and the Region. It shall always strive to provide the best environment for learning and research. Endeavour shall be to imbibe the spirit of creativity and entrepreneurship in its students.
NIT Meghalaya shall be an Institution that does not remain isolated from its surroundings. It shall closely interact with the stake holders, the society, the governments, the NGOs and shall strive to work for the betterment of the state and the region.
Who can Apply:
Employees from Industries, reputed Corporate Houses, Research and Development (R&D) Organizations and Faculties of Senior Colleges with minimum working experience of 5 years, out of which 2 years should be from the current organization can apply for the Ph.D. Sponsored ( Part-time) Programme.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission into Sponsored (Part time) Ph. D. Programme:
Master’s degree in Engineering/ Science/ Technology/ Humanities and Social Sciences/ Management Sciences/ or Master’s degree in the allied subjects with consistently good academic record and a minimum of 60% (55% in case of Humanities and Social Sciences) marks or an equivalent CGPA in the Master’s degree. or
Candidates with B.E. / B. Tech. with an aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA are also eligible.
Candidate’s age should not be more than 58.
Relaxation for SC/ST/PWD Candidates:
Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CGPA for SC/ST/PWD category applicants as per GOI Norms.
Selection Procedure:
Eligible shortlisted candidates will be required to appear Personal Interview, which is to be conducted by the respective Departments on the scheduled date.
Application Fees:
Application fees of Rs. 1000/- for General/OBC and Rs. 500 for SC/ST candidates to be paid via online. No application fee to be paid by PWD candidates.

Ph.D Sponsored (Part-time) Progamme Guidelines:
Candidates shall be governed as per PhD Regulations of NIT Meghalaya
STEP-I: candidates are advised to make the payment first as per category.
STEP-II: fill the online application form.
STEP-III: print out of online application form along with payment proof with all the testimonials (self attested) to the mentioned address.
Last date of filling online application: 30th October, 2019 (Wednesday) till 5:00 PM
Last date for receipt of hard copy of Application by Post: 12th November, 2019 (Tuesday) till 5:00 PM
