    Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) is an academic institution established by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India with regional and global partnerships synergizing with the programmes of UNESCO as a Category II Centre. The primary focus of RCB is to provide world class education, training and conduct innovative research at the interface of multiple disciplines to create high quality human resource in disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas of biotechnology in a globally competitive research milieu. In 2016, RCB was recognized as an Institution of National Importance by the Parliament of India.

  • Course Name: MS and PhD Programme
    Course Description: MS-PhD Programme

    Eligibility:

    Indian Students


    Students with 60% aggregate marks (or an equivalent grade point average) in Bachelor's degree in any branch of Science, Engineering, or Medicine are eligible to apply for admission. Students from the SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), and PWD categories shall be given a relaxation of 5% aggregate marks. Students in the final year of their qualifying degree programme are also eligible to apply provided that they produce a proof of having secured the required marks in their undergraduate degree programme at the time of admission to the MS-PhD Programme.


    Eligible students are required to appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology (GAT-B). Shortlisted students based on their performance in the GAT-B, shall be invited for an interview and their subsequent selection to the MS-PhD Programme will be based on the performance in the interview. The interview is meant to assess the student for his/her aptitude and interest in a career in scientific research and development.  Up to 20 students, who meet the desired criteria for selection, may be admitted. There shall be reservation of seats as per the orders of the Government of India in this regard.


    Foreign Students


    Students with 60% aggregate marks (or an equivalent grade point average) in Bachelor's degree in any branch of Science, Engineering, or Medicine are eligible to apply for admission. Students in the final year of their qualifying degree programme are also eligible provided they produce a proof of having secured the required marks in their undergraduate degree programme at the time of admission to the MS-PhD Programme. Eligible students are required to apply online for admission and fellowship to the programme. Shortlisted students shall be invited to appear for an online interview through video conferencing for their selection to the MS-PhD Programme. The interview is to assess the student for his/her aptitude and interest in a career in scientific research and development. Up to 5 students, who meet the desired criteria for selection, may be admitted. Admission of foreign students is subject to getting student visa from the Government of India for the duration of the programme and valid medical insurance.


    FELLOWSHIPS


    The Indian and Foreign students admitted to the programme shall receive the RCBRamachandran-DBT fellowship of Rs. 16000 per month for the first 2 years of the programme, after which an Indian student is required to qualify for the junior/senior research fellowships offered by CSIR, ICMR, DBT, or such other funding agencies.


    The performance of the foreign students, after completion of their MSc component of the programme, shall be evaluated by the Student Advisory Committee, and based on its positive recommendation the student shall be awarded the RCB-DBT International Doctoral Fellowship equivalent to the fellowship offered to an Indian student by other funding agencies as per the relevant DST guidelines. Currently, the amount is Rs. 31000 per month for Junior Research Fellowship and Rs. 35000 per month for the Senior Research Fellowship.

    Eligible candidates may apply online for admission to the MS-PhD Programme of the Regional Centre for Biotechnology. The application fee of Rs. 500 may be paid online. The SC, ST, PwD, EWS, and foreign candidates are exempted from payment of the application fee.

    i.    Qualifications: MSc/MTech in any branch of Life Sciences/Chemistry/MPharma/ MVSc/ MBBS or an equivalent degree.

    ·          Any other nationally-competitive fellowship offered by the Government

    Selection Process

    The application shall be submitted as per link given below. Subsequently, application fee of Rs.500/-, if applicable is to be submitted by the applicant before the due date. SC/ST/PwD/EWS candidates are exempted from payment of application fee. The applications received before the due date will be scrutinized for eligibility. Eligible candidates will be called for a written test and/or interview on January 27 and 28, 2022 at RCB, Faridabad. Providing false/ incorrect information in the application form or non-possession of essential qualifications detected at any stage of the selection process will lead to disqualification of the candidate. The decision of the Competent Authority at RCB shall be final and binding in this regard.

    Fellowship

    The students admitted to the programme will have to avail the fellowship for which they have qualified as per the rules of the funding agency. RCB will have no financial liability regarding the same.

    Eligibility:

    The candidate must have a first-class (60% marks or more) Master's degree in Statistics or Mathematics. The candidate should have scored at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in the Master’s Degree. Those appearing in the final examination and having secured at least 60% marks on an average in all examinations held during the Master’s degree programme are also eligible to apply. However, students will be permitted to join the programme only on production of first-class Master’s degree certificate.


    Selection procedure for admission and stipend:


    Eligible candidates will be called for a written test and/or interview. The dates will be intimated in due course. Selected candidates shall receive a consolidated fellowship of Rs. 45000 per month for the first two years of the programme and Rs. 50000 for the next three years with a contingency of Rs. 25000 per year. The fellowship shall be subject to taxes as per Govt. of India rules. Continuation of fellowship and upgradation is subject to satisfactory progress made by the student to be evaluated periodically.     Eligibility:

    Indian students

    Students with 60% aggregate marks (or an equivalent grade point average) in Bachelor's degree in any branch of Science, Engineering, or Medicine are eligible to be apply for admission.     Eligible students are required to appear for the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS). Shortlisted students based on their performance in the JGEEBILS, shall be invited for interview for their final selection to the PhD (Integrated) Degree Program. The interview is to assess the student for his/ her science aptitude and interest in a career in scientific research and development. Up to 20 students, who meet the desired criteria for selection, may be admitted. There shall be reservation of seats as per the orders of the Govt. of India in this regard.

    Foreign Students

    Students with 60% aggregate marks (or an equivalent grade point average) in Bachelor's degree in any branch of Science, Engineering, or Medicine are eligible to apply for admission. Studentsin the final year of their qualifying degree program are also eligible to apply provided they produce a proof of having secured the required marks in their undergraduate degree program at the time of admission to the PhD (Integrated) Degree Program. Eligible students are required to apply online for admission and fellowship to the program. Shortlisted students shall be invited to appear for a Skype-based interview for their selection to the PhD (Integrated) Degree Program. The interview is to assess the student for his/ her science aptitude and interest in a career in scientific research and development. Up to 5 students, who meet the desired criteria for selection, may be admitted. Admission of foreign students is subjected to getting student visa from the Govt. of India for the duration of the program.

    FELLOWSHIPS

    On campus shared boarding and lodging facilities are available for admitted students on payment of prescribed fees.
