  • Symbiosis Institute of Media Communication, SIMC, Pune

  • About Symbiosis Institute of Media Communication:

    SIMC Pune

Established in 1990, originally as the Symbiosis Institute of Journalism & Communication (SIJC), the Institute was renamed in 1998 as the Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC) to broaden the realm of media training beyond Journalism, keeping in step with the present industry requirements.

The year 2007 recognized the industry's diverse evolving needs and it was finally re-christened as 'Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication'. A massive diversification of media has led to a revolution, where we are no longer passive users, but, media creators. The face of traditional media is undergoing a makeover, wherein each and every citizen can become an active participant contributing their ideas and opinions. SIMC believes in harnessing this potential and armed with the immense power of technology, we run with our apotheosis - Convergence. A significant milestone in SIMC's progress was its inclusion in the ambit of the Symbiosis International University in 2006.

The year 2008 saw the genesis of the Under-Graduate programme in Media Studies (Bachelors of Media Studies - BMS). This harnesses the best traditions of SIMC, offering a comprehensive experience through traditional academic learning and research with cyber and experiential learning.

    Vision:

Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication will be the preferred destination for all who aspire to excel in the field of Media and Communication Management.

    Mission

To receive information related to media and communication, assimilate it and then disseminate the same in an effective manner.

To inform, educate, entertain and empower the participants to meet the challenges of a competitive and evolving globalised media environment.

To educate and inspire media aspirants in social communication within a world class ambience.

To develop a unique Institute where the programmes provide training in new global media technology.

To connect, communicate and converge in building symbiotic links with the academia, industry, and community, in the context of media & communication.

    Admission Process:

    First Round:

SET (Symbiosis Entrance Test) is a common objective written test conducted by Symbiosis for graduate programmes. It is the first step in seeking admission to Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication (Undergraduate). Candidates are short-listed for the second round on the basis of SET scores. SIMC (UG) gives a varied weightage to SET components and does not go by the aggregate score alone.

    Second Round:

The second round consists of assignments, subjective written test, group discussion, personal interview and verification of documents. The same shall be conducted in Pune at the Viman Nagar Campus.

Past students of SIMC are placed at middle to senior levels, all across media and communication driven organisations, including Bates, CNBC, CNN IBN, Doordarshan, Encompass, Endemol, Euro RSCG, Femina, Filmfarm, Good Relations, Group M, Gulf Times, Indian Express, JWT, Lowe Lintas, McCann Erickson, Mudra, NDTV, O&M, Percept, Pioneer, Radio Mirchi, Red Chillies, RK Swamy BBDO, Sahara Samay, TBWA, Tehelka, Times of India, TV Today, Wizcraft, etc
