A distinguished group of health care visionaries set up the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) in 2009. They were impassioned by the urgent Public Health concerns that faced the nation. The emphasis was on fast tracking health care solutions that would meet the needs of a rapidly developing economy in need of health care intensity for its dynamic population. THSTI was mandated to advance knowledge to health care for the community. In the three years that have followed its inception, THSTI has developed with a zeal befitting the corridors of learning.
Created as an autonomous institute by the Government of India, under the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, THSTI will form a pivotal node in a broader cluster of institutes known as the NCR Biotech Science Cluster. Institutes in the cluster will specialize in translational research and related endeavors. It is an ambitious initiative that aims to create a unique institutional ecosystem for the conduct of truly multidisciplinary research for translation to targeted medical innovations for improvement of public health.
a. Educational qualifications and fellowship requirements:
The candidate must fulfill one of the following criteria:
· Should have a Master’s degree in any branch of biomedical/life sciences (including veterinary science, public health, pharmaceutical sciences), bioinformatics, chemistry, computer science or mathematics or a B Tech in Biotechnology from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or its equivalent (e.g.: grade B in the UGC 7-point scale).
· Must have qualified in the JRF examination of CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT (category I only) or NBHM, which provides fellowship for their PhD program.
· Should have SRF fellowship from ICMR, CSIR.
Group B: (THSTI fellowships equivalent to the CSIR-UGC Fellowship amount)
a. Should have MBBS/MDS/MPH from a recognized university/institute with at least 55% marks or its equivalent
b. BE/B Tech (computer science/biotechnology/biomedical engineering/mechanical/ electronics/electrical engineering)/B. Pharma or post-graduate degree in life sciences (all disciplines in life sciences), pharmacy, medicinal chemistry, chemistry, physics, mathematics or bioinformatics from a recognized university/institute with at least 55% marks or its equivalent along with NETLS/DBT-II category or a valid GPAT/GATE qualification.
Candidates appearing in the final qualifying examination may also apply. However, they will be required to fulfill the above academic/ fellowship requirements at the time of joining the Ph D program by 15th of January 2020.
A relaxation in marks/ grade during Master’s Degree for those belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled and any other categories will be applicable as per the UGC notification, 5th May 2016 or subsequent notification in effect of at the time of interview.
Selection procedure: Names of shortlisted candidates will be announced on our website on 20th November 2019. Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an admission test at THSTI on 9th December at 9:30 am. Applicants who clear the admission test will be interviewed on 9th and 10th December 2019. Final selection will be made based on the applicant’s performance in the interview and the list of selected candidates will be published on the THSTI website within one working week after the interview.
Fellowship: Students from group A, selected for admission to the PhD program and holding fellowship from any of the above agencies have to activate their own fellowship. Students selected from Group B will be awarded THSTI fellowships equivalent to the CSIR-UGC Fellowship amount.
No. of seats: A maximum of 25 candidates may be selected this session.
Reservations: 27% seats for OBC (non-creamy layer), 15% seats for SC, 7.5% seats for ST and 3% seats for differently-abled person are reserved for candidates belonging to these categories. SC/ ST/ OBC candidates are required to submit certificates in respect of their claims from authorized officers as notified by the Government for the purpose from time to time. The differently-abled (with minimum 40% disability) candidates are required to submit a certificate from authorized Medical Doctors/ Hospitals indicating the extent of physical disability.
Application procedure: Candidates fulfilling the above requirements must apply online by 8th November 2019. Please send the signed hard copy to the Office of Academics of the institute at the above address along with the application fee and self-attested copies of documents in support of eligibility so as to reach by 13th November 2019.

(a) Obtained MBBS or BVSc degree (during 2010 or later) from a recognized University/Institution with one-year experience or obtained MD /MVSc. degree/M.Pharm (during 2011 or later; experience is not essential) (or)
(b) Obtained 2 years M.Phil degree from a recognized University/Institution with FGPA 6 or equivalent (with dissertation/seminar/Viva) (or);
(c) at least two years research experience after Master’s degree in reputed institutions with one first authored research publication in peer-reviewed journals (included Pub Med; NOT review articles or popular articles or papers in the proceedings). In addition, they should have obtained Master’s Degree with FGPA 6.0 in 10-point scale or comparable standard where the grading is based on system other than 10-point scale
(d) The institute reserves the right to adopt additional criteria for short listing of the applications
Applicants fulfilling the above essential criteria and having their own fellowship and those shortlisted based on the above mentioned eligibility criteria will be invited for the interview
Based on their performance in the interview and taking into consideration their overall experience and research work, selected candidates shall interact with potential PhD supervisors and provide their choice of supervisors
Final allotment of supervisors shall be made based on choices exercised by both the students and the supervisors

Candidate must hold an MBBS, or Master’s degree in life sciences, agriculture, veterinary science, engineering, or pharmacy. Only candidates holding a Junior Research fellowship (JRF) from CSIR-UGC, DBT or ICMR are eligible to apply. Candidates must have first division/class with at least 60% aggregate scores in all examinations from class 10 onwards. All educational and technical qualifications should be from a recognized university/board.
